The HND Marine Engineering programme is intended to impart theoretical knowledge and practical skill to students on engineering design practice, planning, management, operation and maintenance of Marine Engineering systems and equipment suitable for a technician.

The programme develops knowledge and skills in areas such as propulsion, auxiliary systems, stability and structure of merchant ships, electro-technology, mechanical principles, and thermodynamics.

The HND Marine Engineering syllabus offers a robust content in both theory and practical as required by the statutory regulatory agencies; The Nigeria Board for Technical Education (N.B.T.E)   and The Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

Prospects abound for students that have undergone training in Marine Engineering as they could be employed by Maritime Companies to work on ships, they can also work with the Nigerian Port Authorities, Dockyards. Ship yards, International oil Companies (IOCs), International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and well as The Nigerian Navy.

Prerequisites

  1. National Diploma from a recognized Institution (NBTE Accredited) in relevant discipline.
  2. Five (5) Ordinary Level Credit Pass in SSCE/NECO/GCE/NABTEB in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one other subject from Metal Work, Wood Work, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics, Economics, Statistics, Further Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science and Geography.
  3. Completion of one (1) year Industrial Training
  4. JAMB Registration Number/Regularization
