Maritime Economics and Finance is a discipline or field of study concerned with the manner in which existing material and human resources are used in the maritime industry and how they change and develop over time. Maritime Economics and Finance is the holistic and integrated study of maritime resource optimization aimed at generating competitive advantage in maritime industry by increasing the productivity of ship and ports’ operation, reducing transaction costs of international trade and stimulating the formation of new business development.
Learning outcomes
It is designed to imbued the students with the zeal to make positive contributions to the development of the world communities and Nigeria economy in particular, equipping them with broad foundation knowledge of Economics and Finance, as well to review the essentials of the discipline, to present the basic concerns and special features of transport, shipping and ports and apply economic principles to different aspects of marine operations to include commercial policy, shipping market, ship operations, safety and environmental protection.
