The objective of this Master is to train qualified experts at Bacc+5 level in questions related to biology, economics and management of fishing and aquaculture activities on the one hand and biodiversity and the marine and coastal environment on the other. The training is aimed at students holding a university degree at Bachelor's level in Marine Sciences, Biological Sciences, Agronomy, Fisheries Sciences. The Master is spread over four semesters.
The first semesteris focused on strengthening knowledge of basic subjects such as the bioecology of aquatic organisms, mathematical analyzes of data, social sciences and an introduction to research methodology. From the second semester , two courses are offered: the Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Management Course (GDPA) and the Sustainable Biodiversity and Environment Management Course (GDBE).
For the GDPA Course , the teaching units provided cover problems relating to the exploitation and management of fisheries (fishery sciences
and aquaculture, acquisition and processing of data on fisheries, fisheries economics, fisheries management tools: stock assessment, ecosystem approach to fisheries, sustainable support for fisheries (Marine Protected Areas or MPAs).
For the GDBE course , the specialization subjects cover notions of applied ecology, marine pollution, scuba diving, ecosystem conservation, environmental management and marine biotechnology.
The last semester is devoted to carrying out a research and/or professional internship for a period of 6 months, leading to the writing and defense of an end-of-study dissertation. The Master Training, in its new form which follows the LMD system, has been authorized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (authorization order No. 27681/2016/MESupReS of 20/12/2016). The diploma awarded is a diploma from the University of Toliara (co-signed by the Director of the IH.SM and the President of the University). And he is recognized by the public service.
Application procedure
Admission to the Master's program in Marine and Fisheries Sciences is by competitive examination. The competition is open to holders of a Bachelor's degree in Marine Sciences, Biological Sciences, Agronomy, Fisheries Sciences or equivalent. Depending on his scientific background, the candidate may be required to take additional courses before being able to access the requested training.
